Barbara Alfors is a California native, educated at the University of California, Santa Cruz and University of California, Los Angeles where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art History and Master's in Architecture, respectively. Barbara has had a lifelong passion for architecture, and spent many hours as a child imagining fanciful dwellings. Love of the outdoors has framed her interest in the relation of architecture to the land, and the beauty that nature brings to our lives.

Barbara joined KAA Design Group in 1997, and has managed many projects over the years, from large residential estates to modest beach homes. She finds working with a team of clients, architects, consultants, contractors and governing agencies while executing a custom home to be uniquely challenging and rewarding.

Barbara is a longtime member of Heal the Bay, Tree People, and the LA Conservancy – three Los Angeles-based charitable organizations which focus on improving the community we live in. She believes that being active in the community enriches everyone’s lives.

About Us

Our design philosophy is predicated on deep, meaningful connections between the house and the land. Southern California is blessed with a nurturing environment that provides extraordinary opportunities for true indoor-outdoor living. The homes we design fulfill that promise with beauty and joy.

Our Thinking

The Mediterranean in Southern California

Architecture inspired by great traditions of the Mediterranean region has a long, rich history in California. The fruits of this long lineage flavor the character of our cities and dot the surrounding hillsides. At KAA Design, we have often found the Mediterranean architectures to be a perfect fit for our clients wishing to build here.
