The challenges of this property were apparent from the first visit to the site. The flat portion of the parcel was occupied by an undistinguished 1950's vintage house, and the rest of the land sloped steeply to the east into a small canyon, seemingly unusable.  But the view was extraordinary!

The resulting estate exceeded expectations.  Designed to comfortably accommodate a family of six, as well as large scale formal entertaining, this 15,000 square foot residence is an intriguing convergence of classic elegance and gracious comfort.  A careful process of discovery with our clients resulted in a design that is a blending of American, British and Australian Colonial influences, tuned to respond to the climate and lifestyle of Southern California.

The design of the grounds capitalizes on every available part of the property.  Gracious porches and verandas adjoin the living spaces of the house and provide comfortable areas for lounging, dining and entertaining in the out-of-doors.  The hillside to the east is now a carefully-planned terraced garden, accommodating a gymnasium building, a magificently tiled swimming pool, and a classically inspired rose garden.  The cascading grand stair links the various terraces, and leads the eye down slope toward the vista of Hollywood beyond.

The entire slope is now a vibrantly usable garden retreat, perfect for large parties, or playtime for adventurous children.
